George Dean is a 43-year-old Child and Youth Care worker, who has now worked in the field for almost 16 years. George himself, grew up as a child in the child welfare system and was in approximately 60 placements. Due to this, George has not only experienced trauma, but issues with attachment, connection and development. George has been homeless, has panhandled for his next meal, and knows the emotional toll it takes on someone to stand in line at the foodbank. After spending almost 10 years ‘finding himself’, he has been able to connect some of the dots of trauma, attachment and connection, to not only his own life, but to the lives of the young people and families he works with every day. George hopes, that by telling his stories, that it will not only give people a place to learn, be, and do better, but hopes that someday, somewhere, ‘the system’ will finally decide to change for the better – once and for all.
Have faith.
If I can do it – you can do it to.
Whatever it takes.
